About COVID-19:

We are requiring that all students be fully vaccinated.  This is non-negotiable.  Please be prepared to show your vaccination status.  Our staff is fully vaccinated.  Several of them have had COVID-19 and all of them have lost friends and family members in the pandemic. We will follow the guidelines of the CDC and New Mexico Department of Health regarding class size and physical separation.  We plan to do daily temperature checks and we will be using UV-C air cleaners to help maintain a healthy environment.  Please do not try to attend class if you are ill.

Gloria Begay, Jennie Slick,  and I are very pleased to be returning to do a Navajo Weaving Boot Camp at Camp Galilee in Glenbrook, NV (South Lake Tahoe area) from August 28-September 1, 2022.  This is our seventh class in this part of California and we’re really looking forward to meeting new friends and seeing the spectacular scenery.

Class Details

You must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.  This is non-negotiable, and there’s a fee if we have to listen to why you’re not vaccinated.  For this reason, no students under 12 can attend the class.

By popular demand, we have added an extra day to the camp.  We will check-in at 5 PM on Sunday, August 28, and have three FULL days of weaving before we leave at 11 AM on September 1.  On-site coordinator Pedro Kinner has arranged a spectacular venue for us at Camp Galilee, which is on the shores of Lake Tahoe. The $800 tuition includes instruction, dormitory-style room, and board, a digital download of our weaving text including plans for a loom, and the use of weaving tools for the duration of the class. Tools and some looms will be available for sale and we’ll work with you before the class to make sure that you have an appropriate loom.  You may use yarns that you already have or purchase some that we’ll bring with us.

The camp environment is very comfortable, but it’s not a Hilton.  You may bring your own bedding and towels or rent them from the camp.  Weather permitting, you can use one of the on-site tepees and sleep outside.  The dormitory accommodations are very nice and quiet.  The food is absolutely marvelous, much of it locally sourced, freshly prepared, and organic.  Dormitory assignments are on a first registered, first-choice basis so there’s an incentive for you!  The available housing includes a lodge, cabins, bunkhouse, and teepees.

What can you learn at a Navajo Weaving Boot Camp Class?

The class is suitable for levels from beginner to advanced and we are limiting the total enrollment to 20 students to ensure that you have enough individualized attention from four instructors. Our typical teaching day at boot camp starts at 8 AM and goes until 9 PM, so you can expect to really be able to learn a lot as long you can stay awake. You can see below what we cover in each track.  If you are interested in the more advanced track, but worried that you don’t have a firm enough command of the prerequisites, please contact me and we’ll figure out the best fit for you.  Our classes are small enough and personal enough that we can work with you to progress no matter where you are in your weaving journey.
