Angela Taylor’s Navajo Homestead Pictorial Weaving has curb appeal in spades! It has a view, livestock, and an eye-catching purple roof that would send your HOA into orbit.  Angela incorporated a lot of her handspun yarn into this piece, skillfully combining it with some hand-dyed commercial yarn for the roof, sky, and white border.  A friend of ours used to suggest that small pictorials would look great in a bathroom that didn’t have windows. At 11″x 16″, this piece would fit, but it’ll look great wherever you put it!

Mesa country forms Angela’s background, and her hogan accentuates the landscape. Traditionally, the hogan door faces east, and guests move left in a clockwise direction when entering. When needed, a hogan serves as a ceremonial location; you’ll often see them near more conventional “square” houses, serving as storage or extra housing when not in ceremonial use.

Angela lives in Piñon, Arizona, about two and a half hours drive from our store in Gallup. We love it when she comes in because we know we’ll see excellent weaving.  Angela depends on her weaving income for food, and she brings her neighbors’ rugs into town to help them get their pieces sold.  Yeah, we think she’s pretty nice too!

At Weaving in Beauty, we focus mainly on contemporary rugs acquired directly from artists we know personally. We believe in fair compensation and typically honor the artists' asking prices or come as close as possible.

Our commitment is to support living artists, which is why we rarely deal in vintage pieces. Every rug in our collection comes from weavers with whom we have built personal relationships.
