Description
Celebrate the return of cool weather with this Hand-knit Fire Opal/Well Water Colorway Sheep Beanie. These make a wonderful gift for someone special (or maybe for yourself). Mary hand-knitted this version in Madelinetosh Vintage worsted-weight yarn in Fire Opal, Undergrowth, Onyx, Farmhouse White, and Well Water. Vintage is a hand-dyed, machine-washable, superwash yarn.
The pattern is based on Donna Smith’s super-popular Baa-ble Hat. Mary adapted the pattern to knit it with the Madelinetosh yarn, and it’s a size that snugly fits smaller adults (think 20″ and smaller). She used a stranded colorwork technique called ladderback Jacquard that keeps the work surface smooth. It creates a second layer, which means the hat is also warm.
Want to knit the hat yourself? It’s a great introduction to color work, and the pattern is available with Mary’s chart modifications here.
