Meet the Ashford Joy Portable Spinning Wheel!  It checked off a lot of the boxes on our portable wheel checklist.  

• Easy to assemble.  We clocked 45 minutes from unboxing to spinning, and we had to read the instructions.  The Joy comes pretty much assembled.  You assemble and mount the Scotch tension and flyer.  Unfold the feet.  Start spinning.  Oh yeah, we did have to find the Scotch tension knobs in the packing material.  
• Under $1000.  $95 under, but still, it’s under.
• Quiet.  As in you can’t believe how quiet this thing is.  Ball bearings.  
• Easy to transport.  You’ll have the Joy folded up and ready to stow in seconds.  There are wheels that fold up smaller, but this one is super simple and fast to pack.  
• Carry bag.  The backpack-style carrying case is well-made and padded.
• Versatile.  Four spinning ratios, 6, 8, 11, 14:1.  

The Ashford Joy Portable Spinning Wheel: The Inside Story

This compact wheel is lightweight (5kg/11lb) and portable with a folding treadle, built-in lazy kate, and carry handle. Fold and go – it can be carried easily in cars, as carry-on luggage in planes (check with your airline first as this varies from aircraft to aircraft), and takes up little space at home. Spin a variety of yarns using the four ratios.

The stretchy drive cord does not require any adjustment as you change from one ratio to another and always maintains the correct tension. The wheel and flyer are mounted on ball bearings for effortless spinning. Smooth and quiet with treadles mounted on polyurethane hinges to allow a comfortable heel-toe action. The wheel comes assembled and lacquered, ready for spinning.
